Water

Water is a great necessity, without it nothing can live. This abundant element is essential to all known forms of life. It is cleansing, healing and essential for optimal health and every cell of our bodies is dependent on it to function properly. Our body, all our internal organs, cells and blood are made of mostly water. It is easy to see why it essential to our health. Adequate hydration is an important part of general well-being for both feeling and looking good. Our radiant health is dependent on it, so drink up.
GETTING YOUR WATER QUOTA
Each person’s water needs vary depending on many factors such as the foods a person eats, environmental temperature and humidity, activity level, etc. It is advised that we take in at least 40 ounces of water a day.
There is a simple formula to calculate your water intake based on your body weight. Drink 1/2 your body weight of water in ounces. Example: 120 lb = 55 oz. of water daily. That is approximately seven 8 oz. or five 10 oz. glasses to maintain adequate hydration.
OTHER SOURCES OF HYDRATION
Drinking pure water isn’t the only way to meet our daily fluid needs. Herbal tea, fruits and vegetables [composed mostly of water] and the juices derived from them contribute to our overall water intake.
AVOID WATER LEECHERS
You’ve probably heard that caffeinated or alcoholic drinks act as diuretics that will dehydrate you if consumed excessively. Note that every 6 oz. of caffeine or alcohol requires an additional 10 to 12 oz. of water to re-hydrate you!
ENHANCING AND FLAVORING WATER
Pure H2O is clear and tasteless, pure and simple. Sometimes it is nice to add a little interest with some flavor. Enhance the taste as well as the mineral content by adding a squeeze of lemon, Himalayan salt, or MSM [Methyl-Sulfonyl-Methane], for example.
WATER SOURCES
The ultimate water source is direct from nature like a natural body of clean flowing non-polluted fresh water, or collected rain water that has fallen from skies with clean air quality. However, most people depend on bottled or filtered drinking water.
There is an abundance of water filtration systems as well as bottled water choices. Water filters are easy to install and maintain and do a great job removing impurities. The variety of bottled water is enormous, ranging from grocery store brands to high-end name brands. My personal bottled water favorite is Fiji Natural Artesian Water.
WHAT’S IN YOUR WATER?
Find out by checking your Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) or Right-To-Know Report. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requires all water systems to provide a CCR report to their customers each year. Visit this link to obtain your report http://www.epa.gov/safewater/ccr/index.html
Whatever type of drinking water you chose, be certain it is of the highest quality you can afford and you get enough water on a daily basis. To your health!

Hey Penni! Our body weight in water is somewhere between 55% - 75%. Some interesting info is that the brain is said to be about 85 percent water, our blood 83-90%, muscles 75%, the liver 82%, and our bones 22% water. This being the case, I’d think water most definitely is one very important key to maintaining our health. Water can help curb appetite, flushes our system of toxins… I could go on and on. Cheers to you and your health!
